On November 27th, a video was uploaded on YouTube showing Romanian President, Traian Basescu, hitting a child in the face. Ouch. This occurred at a rally for the 2004 elections. Now that the video has gone viral many have doubts about the Romanian President winning a second term.

However, some of his supporters are making allegations that the clips is fake, and the story was made up. But the kid in the clip confirmed the story as well as his aunt. Since the released of the clip, Basescu is trailing his opponent by 8%. This is the largest gap yet in the campaign and it was only last month that they expected him to win.

The video has truly shown a side that many citizens have never seen before. However, there are just as many that never trusted the man in the first place. “The video shows the real Basescu – a thug,” says Daniel Antonescu, a 46-year old taxi driver from Bucharest, “I wouldn’t have voted for him before but at least less people will vote for him now.” Goes to show that being an aggressive politician can back fire.
