How to get loyal subs

Posted by admin On December - 30 - 2009 2 COMMENTS

As you become more involved as a YouTuber you’ll start to learn terminology that you never heard before. One of these terms is “loyal subs”. What exactly is a loyal sub you might ask? This article will explain what they as well as why they’re important and how to obtain them.

-What are “loyal subs”?

“Loyal subs” is short for loyal subscribers. So what exactly is the difference between “loyal subscribers” and just regular subscribers? A regular subscriber will often watch you videos, if at all, and that’s it. They get their fill for entertainment and move on to something else.

However, a loyal subscriber does much more than that. They’ll watch all of your videos, rate them, comment on them, favorite them, tell their friends and family about them, and often do what you tell them to do. They’re actually more like your fans than they are subscribers, and without them no YouTuber would get big.

-How do I obtain loyal subscribers?

It’s actually easier to tell you how you don’t get them. You don’t get loyal subscribers with “sub for sub”, buying them, creating fake accounts then subscribing to yourself, nor begging for people to subscribe. What does that leave? Hard work or, if you get lucky, a shout out from a bigger YouTuber who has loyal subscribers themselves.

However, let’s focus on what you can do at this moment. As a YouTuber you need to continuously upload videos, constantly improve, and find ways to get your subscribers involved. Shane Dawson and Ray William Johnson are known for their “comment question of the day”. Other YouTubers do live shows. Then some will create videos answering questions from their subscribers. It also help to network with other YouTubers which we’ll cover in a future article.

Doing all of this adds up and quickly shows results, because it’s further branding yourself. Remember, to be a big YouTuber you need to brand yourself and your personality. You’re not selling a product, you’re selling yourself, and people “buy” when they subscribe. They only subscribe, because convinced them that you are the next best thing and that you’re worth their time. This is where they become loyal to you.

-What do I do after I have loyal subscribers?

Once you start to receive loyal subscribers you need to work even harder to keep them. They subscribe to you, because they like what you do and want to see more of it. If you fail to provide, they slowly start to lose interest in you. We see this all the time with bigger YouTubers who suddenly stop making videos. Then when they do upload a new video their views are cut by nearly 70%; thus, throwing out all of your hard work.

Loyal subscribers help to progress you as a YouTuber by supporting your videos in every way possible. There are no real short cuts to getting them, but they’re well worth the hard work. Then once you receive them, you need to work even harder to keep their interest.

CincoDeVlogo: YouTube’s gas station burrito

Posted by admin On December - 16 - 2009 57 COMMENTS

CDV_Ibcon
When CincoDeVlogo first started I was impressed and expected a lot from this collab channel. It was made up of two YouTubers that I already spotlighted, two more that I would end up spotlighting, and one that I had the privilege to do a Skype interview with. I even did a guest spot and was going to sponsor their channel. However, like a gas station burrito, what was great has now given me an upset stomach.

CincoDeVlogo’s first mistake was neglecting their individual YouTube channels. It’s been months since AyyLucky uploaded new videos onto his own channel. With Andy Warski’s hectic life his time has been poorly invested into a collab channel. Both Ricky and Edwin are hanging in there, but not at a 100%. By not investing in themselves, the member of CDV are or have they lost touch with their own subscribers and potential growth in their own styles.

The next mistake happened with the lost of GraphyteTV. There was nothing wrong with him leaving. In matter of fact, it was the best move anyone in that collab channel has made for themselves regardless of why of he had left. The mistake they made was the replacement they decided on; DFizzy.

Yes, he’s funny and has a unique style that I enjoy, but it doesn’t work for CincoDeVlogo. His style clashes too much with a couple of the other members such as Andy. Also, why would you bring on someone who has been neglecting with his own channel? It gives off the impression that whoever wanted him on CincoDeVlogo only wanted to gain access to his subscribers even though it was stated otherwise.

To make matters worse, I was told they’re taking a three week break. This is an awful idea, because anytime you go on a long period without new videos you’re going lose your steam. A week long break would have been better. Enough time to get their act together, but not too long to lose their subscribers’ interest. At least respect your subscribers by making a video informing them, because I shouldn’t have to find out from a Skype call days later.

Both Andy and DFizzy would be better off walking away from CincoDeVlogo. They need to focus more on their channels which demands more from them since they’re partners. Otherwise they’ll continue to lose respect from their subscribers and never grow any bigger as YouTubers.

Lucky, Edwin, and Ricky need to think about what they want. Do they want to be known as a collab channel or as individual YouTubers? At the moment there’s little hope that they can manage both. However, I would be more than happy to be proven wrong.

Due to the support of well established and credible YouTubers and even a member of CincoDeVlogo itself I have decided to make this post public once more with a few minor changes. Note that comments that support the YouTubers mentioned or that supports my opinions are welcome. However, any comments that are personal attacks or contains vulgar language from either side will not be approved. I am OutbackZack and I’ll continue to voice my opinions.

Don’t drink yourself fat. Wait, what?

121509020747_Pouring on the Pounds1Who doesn’t love a good soda? Some enjoy Coke, others are Pepsi lovers, and the ones with any actual taste have a 12 pack of Dr. Pepper by their side. However, a YouTube video may have some rethinking their soda consumption with its gut turning imagery.

The video shows a man drinking a glass of… fat. This is supposed to represent the amount of fat you can gain from drinking a soda everyday for a year. It’s part of New York City Health Department’s campaign to curb obesity. I’m also sure someone is getting a good laugh out of how many people spit out their soda while watching this.

Charleston registered dietitian Linda St. Clair said, although sugary drinks do not contain fat, they can cause weight gain.

You can always cut back on calories another way when you’re drinking a soda and you wouldn’t have a weight gain,” she said. “But if that’s in addition to everything else you’re taking in for the day, a soda’s about 140 calories a 12 ounce can. Many people probably drink a 20 ounce at this point. And, if you drank it everyday for 365 days, you probably would gain 10 to 15 pounds.

The video urges people to drink water or other drinks with no calories, or low calories. The American Beverage Association calls the campaign irresponsible. Which makes sense seeing how water can kill you.

Watch YouTube on… your microwave?!

Posted by admin On December - 16 - 2009 2 COMMENTS

castoven-microwave

Every time I’m nuking a hotdog in a microwave I find myself thinking, “Damn I wish I could watch a YouTube video right about now.” These are dark times, but I have seen the light! Finally someone has answers my prayers with the new CastOven.

This microwave has a 10.4 inch LCD display that plays YouTube clips that fit your cooking time. The developers explained their inspiration, “Watching movies, playing games, and browsing Web pages are fun, but all of them require a certain amount of time of us to spare.” Yeah, I still don’t get it either.

There’s no denying that the concept machine looks really cool. There’s also no denying that this is by far the dumbest idea. I was able to solve my YouTube-less microwave cooking time with my wireless enable laptop. If only they came out with LCD display footwear so I don’t miss a PhillyD video while tying my shoes. Now that’s a good idea.

Help PauseStopRewind go to VidCon2010! Learn how to be apart of the crew!

Posted by admin On December - 11 - 2009 1 COMMENT

VidCon 2010VidCon, a YouTube convention, was announced for July 9th-11th, 2010 in LA. During these three days popular YouTubers will speak, important topics will be discussed, classes will be taught, and YouTubers will have expos. PauseStopRewind’s goal is to be their for this mind blowing three day event to conduct live interviews, report on all news worthy events, film everything for you to later view, and hopefully broadcast part of VidCon live for you. And you’re looking for your help!

Help Fund the Trip

PauseStopRewind is looking for both sponsors and donations to help fund the trip and the equipment needed. As you can imagine this trip will be somewhat expensive defiantly for a college student. In return my crew members and I will wear shirts that will have a list of everyone who help funded the trip. If you’re a YouTuber this will be chance to expose your name to people from all over the world. However, if you’re not, this is still the chance to show your love for the community.

Anyone who donates $20.00 or more will become an official sponsor for the trip. This will give you a larger space on the shirt to have both your name and logo/face. Also, any reporting done via film will have your logo edited in at the beginning mentioning you as a sponsor. All videos have a likelihood generating thousands of views as YouTubers and fans alike search for videos of VidCon.

There is no minimum amount needed for a donation. Even if you can only donate a $1 your name will be on the shirt. One way or another PauseStopRewind is going to VidCon2010, because I did already purchase my ticket to get in.

Looking for Both Crew Members and Hotel Roommates

As you already may know the hotel rooms are both expensive and the cheapest ($149/night). In order to cut down the costs and to increase the amount of fun I’m looking for three people to bunk with. Further more, if you plan on or already purchased a track ticket that allows you get into all the events I’m look for a small crew. Being apart of this crew means you’ll help me film, cover the events, do live interviews, and edit footage. Also, as an extra added bonus I’ll have PauseStopRewind crew member shirts made for you that you’ll get to keep.

Ideally I would like for the people I share a hotel room to also be apart of the crew, but it’s not needed. If you’re 100% sure that you’re going as in you already got your ticket then let me know if you’re interested. Just leave a comment below and I’ll use the email you supplied with your comment to get in touch with you. I would like to get a hotel room ASAP to ensure that we’ll get to stay on site for VidCon2010.

Google and YouTube launches new video site

Posted by admin On December - 11 - 2009 2 COMMENTS

vevo-logoGoogle and YouTube launched a website that’s the first of its kind. VEVO is a music video one site. No music parodies, no fan made remixes, no Philippine guys with a high pitch voice that makes us question their mental health (somewhat of an inside joke). It’s all 100% official music content that’s just a click away.

If you’re familiar with Playlist.com then you’ll quickly understand it’s the same only just with videos. You’re able to create an account that allows you to customize playlists with upwards to 75 videos. This is actually pretty handy instead of having to search through your favorites on YouTube. I can never find my Lady Gaga Just Dance amongst all the Shay Carl videos.

The overall design is very smooth and simple with a red, black, white, and gray color scheme. Searching the videos is just as simple as well. With the options of videos, artist, genres, channels, and playlists you’ll quickly get the results you’ll want.

Now there are a couple of downsides. Right now you’re limited to Universal Music Group’s selection until Google and YouTube sing deals with other music corporations. Further more, you’ll find that not all of UMG’s music videos are up yet. The website also has a few bugs. Sometimes the videos will freeze, the searches will bring up a blank page, and it’s a little slow overall. I’m sure these problems will be addressed soon.

At the moment, VEVO is a great addition to the online video world. It makes it easier for us to find and save our favorite music videos. Also, YouTube will gain even more ad revenue. They will surely be another step close to becoming profitable.

VidCon 2010, biggest YouTube event of the year

Posted by admin On December - 10 - 2009 6 COMMENTS

VidCon 2010We all heard of the famous YouTube gatherings such as 7-8-9, but never heard of a large convention. Then suddenly a frenzy of tweets exploded last night with news of VidCon2010. It’s so new that this may be your first time hearing about it. So let me explain to you exactly what VidCon2010 is.

Imagine a hotel full of undiscovered YouTubers and YouTube’s most viewed. You look to your right and there’s Lisa Nova and to your left is Michael Buckley. There’s even a chance that you’ll have a room next to Shane Dawson’s. While you’re at this hotel you’ll hear speeches from a variety of online film makers and you’ll sit in classes on how to increase the quality of your own videos.

This is exactly what’s going to happen from July 9th – 11th, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. During these three days downtown Los Angeles will be overrun by more YouTubers than illegal immigrants. You’ll find that three days won’t be enough with live concerts to DJ dance parties and exhibits of every taste and color. Did I mention there’s a possibility of meeting room size ball pit?

Now here’s comes the part that we’re all dreading; the cost. The ticket to get into the convention will be $80 (or $40 for one day). For an extra $110 you’ll get access to all the parties, talks, and demonstrations. The hotel room will be as low as $149 a night (about $300 for two nights). Don’t worry; you can bunk up with three more people to cut down the cost. The plane ticket will vary base on where you live and if you actually need one.

Will PauseStopRewind be there? You bet I’ll do everything to get my Australian ass over there. I’m even looking into cutting off my long hair and selling it. By being there I hope to capture the experience and bring it back to you the readers. That’s right; I’ll get live interviews, record and take notes on the demonstrations for you, and even showcase undiscovered talent by further exposing the website to the community.

YouTube’s new ultra light browser, Feather

Posted by admin On December - 7 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

feather-1600x1200YouTube announced on their blog a new way to browse videos that will help with the loading time. Feather is an ultra watch page that can be tried out in TestTube. The player still features prominently in the browser, but till be kept to a minimum. Also, to keep loading time to a few mere second, many features are disable. Amongst these are the ability to comment and rate videos.

The reaction has been very mixed. One man said, “Here’s the news you don’t want to hear, YouTube: the slowness issue isn’t something that just suddenly happened ever since the rollout of 1080p. (…) It’s a server side problem, YT. That’s what you guys really need to understand. Not our fault. Your guys’ fault.

Then there are those who are happy with the new feature, “I actaully really like the idea, but as said above the features missing a quite alot. However, for viewers who only watch videos like me, it works out quite good.” So is the ability to view videos faster worth the inability to comment and rate? Depends on what type of view you are.

Below is a screen shot of the new browser. You gotta love the second comment on the video.

YouTube CEO and founder visits Israel

Posted by admin On December - 7 - 2009 1 COMMENT

chad-jpeg-headshot-0707YouTube CEO and founder, Chad Hurley, is visiting Israel, Tel Aviv. “I am happy to be here in Israel. This is my first time here and the aim of the visit is to meet with users in order to understand how we can improve YouTube.” He said. Wait, that sounds kind of odd. Why go to Israel to get input on YouTube?

We created the site to make it easier for everyone in the world top share their talents with other and to build international communities. With time we began to enable users to earn money from their attributes.” He went on to add, “Israel has an important role to play in the development of YouTube.

YouTube is actually Israel’s most popular website with viewers in the millions. The Israeli users gave Hurley insight about the tools they use to creates programs and put them on YouTube. Some have even been using the site since the day it opened.

Hurley sidestepped questions about whereYouTube stands on the Israeli-Palestinian question. He said, “We did not plan it that way but it is amazing to see how YouTube influences politics and helps people know more and be more involved.” Tomorrow Hurley will be in Jerusalem where he will attend the launch of President Peres’ personal YouTube channel.
