Wait, is that Obama?

Kevin ObamapressWhen Barack Obama first made headlines many comedians and spoof television shows failed at creating a good laugh out of him. The man is known to be very charming, witty, humorous, and nearly flawless with his speeches making it difficult to create jokes out of him. Then YouTube’s Alphacat stepped up to the plate and knocked all of us over with chest pains of laugher using his impersonation of Obama. After that, I thought I wouldn’t come across another who could give off such a performance. I thought wrong.

Kevin Michel runs a YouTube channel known as Obama Press that focuses on Obama base skits and parodies. I haven’t really seen another good Obama impersonator before I’ve come across his videos. He has the tone, the hand and arm moments, the speech patterns, the sway of the body, and nearly everything else down to a tee. What he does next is truly spotlight worthy.

The amount of parodies on YouTube are beyond endless, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to stand out. However, I find myself with lyrics stuck in my head from Obama Press’ parodies. Kevin takes on the role of Obama in cleverly written parodies that actually shows some political knowledge. Being involved in politics myself I enjoyed these a lot whereas a 13 year-old Jonas Brother obsessed girl might not. This is what makes me appreciate his work as a YouTuber even more.

At the moment, his TI & Justin Timberlake Dead & Gone parody is my top favorite. I actually found this Obama parody of Dead & Gone to be better than that of Alphacat’s. Somehow he found a way to reference Superman to the economy while throwing in sexual jokes about Michelle Obama. The production was kept really simple too. Which is great, because it had me focus more on the lyrics than what’s going on the in background.

Obama Press also has other types of videos that I found enjoyable. The skits are short and sweet, and they have an interesting way of combing real media footage with home made footage. Just the thought of Obama hitting George Bush with a shoe makes me smile. I would like to see his production quality tighten up a little bit, but at the moment it’s not enough to stop me from enjoying his videos. I believe that Obama Press has a good chance of becoming a top chart channel if he keeps it up.
