HiImRawn interview
PauseStopRewind: Why did you start uploading videos onto YouTube?
HiImRawn: I felt YouTube needed something spicy…like a habenero pepper in your eyes..but healthy like meditation and oceans.
You haven’t uploaded a video on your channel in a few months. Why is that, and do you plan to upload new ones in the foreseeable future?
Me and Will Watkins, willwatkins.com (The fabulous producer of HiimRawn) have both been a bit busy with TheStation and boy does my face hurt. But! We have found a secret potion that has been passed down from generation to generation of super models which allows us to never ever sleep and just work into eternity so we are almost finished with the Second season of the HIIMRAWN show and it promises to be nothing short of special. I’m not gonna say too much but there will be pop stars and anti heroes and dragqueens and fire and explosions and lightning possibly even a mule and also plenty of sparkling life lessons! Stay tuned! (PS I also have a second channel HIIMRAWNtoo which will be a little more raw like kale, and I will be posting more goodness of that very soon)
Where did you get the idea for your intro and outro?
The intro was Will’s idea and I think he just wanted to showcase my amazing drawing skills. The outro was my idea and I wanted to showcase the 4 ply recycled toilet paper that I use because its so silky soft…no scraping if you know what I mean…and I dry off fruits with it too…but not at the same time…does that cancer your weapon…I mean answer your question?
You credited Will Watkins and Ryan Templeton in your videos. Who are they, and what roles did they play in your videos?
They are an amazing production team artistic duo called the Crazydanks and they have produced a number of other shows Dank and Nank, FromaCloset, and the newest one PepperHonkeyB. They came up to me and said “Hey Rawn, we want to make a show of you where you act like you, and do stuff and stuff like you do.” and I said “yeah uh sure”. They are dear friends and collaborators and it is just as much their show as it is mine. Check out the episodes they cameo in and check out the other amazing stuff they do! www.cramseries.blogspot.com, www.willwatkinsphotography.com, www.dankandnank.com, youtube.com/fromacloset, and youtube.com/pepperhonkybitch.
You have the most interesting and fresh comedic style. How would you describe it?
YUM! interesting and fresh. LIKE KALE!!! Thank you! What an amazing compliment! You are such a special guy I like your style. I’m really enjoying this interview so far…I wish we were both in space suits though running on the moon all slow and languid without a care in the world (well we do care that we have enough oxygen in our tanks and that we will be able to go back to the ship for space wine and biscuits). I digress…To answer your question…I’ve never thought of myself as a comedian (I don’t get jokes)…I am more of a motivational
speaker but people smile at what I say at times and I think of what TichNhatHanh says of “comedy” -’Smiling is very important. If we are not able to smile then the world will not have peace. It is not by going out for a demonstration against nuclear missiles that we bring about peace. It is with our capacity of smiling, breathing, and being peace that we can make peace.’ plumvillage.org Does that answer your question?
Who are your favorite comedians, and how have they influenced your style?
Ooh…um…Thats hard as I have a hard time getting jokes but…I am heavily influenced by Ethyl Eichelberger
and Tiny Tim, who are dead now but their legend lives on…alot of people compare me to Andy Kaufman, who is dead but he is funny too, but I am not much influenced by him directly but maybe in the universal consciousness sense…As far as living comedians I enjoy DAX FLAME he is amazing (he stayed at my house last month and he killed me with Kindness) and JerBerJones (who is more of a model but…) robbied.com Oh and scientist Nikolai Tesla not technically a comedian or alive but Is a HUGE Influence on my performances…he was a man who was all about innovation for the greater good of humanity and many thought he was JOKING with his FUNNY inventions…most of which we use to this day and some we are still too ignorant to use. teslasociety.com Does that answer your question?
Why did you get into playing the accordion, and how many years have you been playing?
Mr. Balducci was walking door to door telling people about his accordion shop and he showed me an accordion and I played it and fell deeply in love!!! He was my first teacher and he was a FUCKING ASSHOLE who made me cry every time…but no hard feelings he was just going through some tough times and had to take it out on little RAWN I love him for giving me Accordion…Now I am under the Tutelage of Living accordion legend Frank Marocco (you can hear his accordion on movies from The Godfather to The Matrix to Lemony Snicket) I just love the sound the touch the taste the complexity…It is an amazing instrument and I dedicate my life to making it sound as wonderfully as I can!!!…oh I got to take a cold shower.
Why did you name your accordion Kendra, and what is your favorite position with her? (Accordion SEX – Hi I’m Rawn)
Shes actually my sister she only plays my accordion lover on TV…(so we dont do anything like that in real life)
How did you become part of The Station?
DannyDiamond and LisaNova were fans of the HiimRawn show, we met, and became Dear Friends. DannyDiamond is the conductor of TheStation and he asked me to join and I said “…um…Yeah OK.” Both Danny and Lisa Are amazing and beautiful lights that are shining on street corners and on beaches and other places where light looks good.
What role do you play in the creative process for the videos?
Well 99 percent of my video Ideas are rejected, but I am not discouraged. I just keep pressing on I believe in myself…but as it is I do everything from write and act to set decoration and costumes to Choreography and my favorite…Editing and Bathroom cleaning…
What’s the hardest part when it comes to creating the videos for The Station?
The hardest part, FOR CEREAL, is Not Laughing…when we shoot together everyone is laughing and Laughing and 3 hours later were like…did we shoot anything and we laugh some more about how we just laughed while we were supposed to be working and then its dark and we’re like isn’t darkness funny…and we laugh until we are tired and a little grouchy because we need food and then we eat food and have a meeting about how the shoot is going and we realize we haven’t shot anything and then we shoot. Does that answer your question.
What is it like working with everyone else?
Ah its so fun. It has been so great getting to know everyone especially since we are quite an eclectic group I am learning so much. I mean I would have never imagined myself hanging out with any of them so its beautiful like that…its cracking open the shell of my consciousness!!! These Youtubers are so supportive and creative and wonderful spirits its not an accident they are so popular.
Is there a funny story or moment you had while working with them?
Yeah! hahaha! This one time ShaneDawson was like “Hey” and then Shaycarl was like “Whats up” and then KassemG walks in and hes “like someone get in here” and LisaNovas like “Im coming in” and PhillyD is like “I’m not coming” and CharlesTrippy was like “Hey, Nigahiga come over here” and Bdonski is like “No, me and him are taliking to DannyDiamond” and then BobbyLee grabs some water and whatadaydereck was already at the cooler then Ijustine walks in and says “Omigod you are cute” to me and then a person in a tree costume walked in and said “TIMBER!” I laughed so hard and then everyone pointed and laughed, because I had forgotten that I was wearing a tube top and a gstring from the night B4 with Davedays.
Can you give us any hints as to what roles you’re going to be playing in future videos of The Station
Yes…I will be playing a GIANT, huge GReeN Giant!
Between your videos and The Station, how has YouTube shaped your life and future?
It has shaped my life in that I have a new avenue to bring a smile or a thought or a feeling or inspiration to someones day. My dream is to be inspiring millions of people to Love themselves even more and shine their own wonderful talents on all of us! Thank you for interviewing me you are really a talent and I love your site and I hope all of your dreams come true…Does that panther your erection…I mean answer your question, sorry.
