Adorian
PauseStopRewind: What got you thinking, “Oh I should upload videos onto YouTube!”?

Adorian Deck: All my life I have always loved using a video camera. It always just made me so thrilled for some reason. One of my best friends back in the 7th grade showed me a YouTube video that everyone knows. It was the Pokemon Theme Song Music Video by Smosh, and I laughed at that forever. As the next few months after seeing that, I kept up with smosh’s videos, all their little comedy skits they have done in the past 4 years. So in August 2006, I started making my own videos with like, 10 of my neighbors and they we made it like a little show where I was host, and everyone else did little cheesy 5 – 10 second clips of something and put it all together. After time, we started doing skits, and as more and more time went by, less of my friends/neighbors were making videos with me. It finally narrowed down to just me making videos in July 2008, when I started focusing more on the YouTube community, and where I am today.

Did you ever once thought you would turn out as big as you are now?

I started making videos on youtube when I had just turned 13 years old. I always had that mind sense that I REALLY wanted to be famous, just a natural 13 year old’s thoughts when one would come around an opportunity like this. I honestly never actually THOUGHT that I would get to where I am now, I have so many supporting people watching my videos, and it’s the reason I am still making videos after 3 years on YouTube.

Who are some of your biggest influences both on and off of YouTube?

Well my biggest YouTube influence would have to be Smosh, because they are what got me started on Youtube, and I am SO happy I got the chance to tell them that at YouTube Live last November, and told them how far I had gone at that time. I honestly don’t think I have had many influences that were off of YouTube. I’m sure there are people that are a significant piece to all this, but when I think about my influences for my Youtube videos, it’s basically everyone that has some community sense on YouTube, the people I have met, talked to, and not talked to/met yet.

Why did you want a fresh start on your videos, and as it paid off so far?

I needed a fresh start, because in February, my partnership was disowned along with a few other people I knew that were in the same situation with me, and basically there were problems with Google Adsense. Ever since that happened my inspiration for videos was SO low, I made only about 5 or 6 after that until this August. I felt I had been doing RanDomeFilms for a year and a half, and I’m a teenager and always changing my ideas and opinions. So I just needed a change, and it has helped me SO much. I now make a video AT LEAST once a week. I may have less than half of my subscribers, but almost every single person watches, and I’m proud of that.

Where have you improved most as a YouTuber and where would you like to improve on next?

I have learned what YouTube is about. I used to think it was all about the subscribers, all about getting heard, thats what everyone wanted that I knew way back in the day, and a select few know exactly what I mean by this sentence. Youtube is literally its own community, and there are SO many wonderful people on it. Adults always say the internet is so scary and they’re all predators. Well when you meet hundreds of YouTubers in person, you have completely different opinions on the internet. I used to be such an attention whore when it comes to YouTube, wanting all the fame. I still have that small sense of it, and that is where I would like to improve myself.

Now that you gave yourself these weekly deadlines, how much work is it to get these deadlines met? Also, how stressful is it sometimes?

Haha, well when I first started, I had almost 10 videos already planned out, so I was safe for a while. Now those videos are out on the internet, I am in that danger zone. I am actually REALLY surprised, for some reason, when it’s monday of the week, not even some kind of idea for saturdays new video, something always comes up, I have not let my viewers down and I don’t plan on it. All this keeping up has come in the package of inspiration with the new channel.

Do your video ideas naturally come to you, or do you ever find yourself having to brain storm?

It’s both. Some of my video ideas come from me doing things with friends, or just things I deal with in my life, while some I really have to think about and than they will come to me. It all really depends on how that time period is going; if its good, if its bad.

Have you ever came up with TOO many video ideas? If so, how did you decide which ones to go with?

There is NEVER too many video ideas, it’s GREAT if you have a lot of video ideas. Like I said earlier, I had almost 10 videos planned out. It can really keep you away from a near stress. It’s a really comfortable feeling, because if you don’t post anything for a few weeks like a lot of youtubers I know. You become old and forgotten by a lot of people. That happened to me with RanDomeFilms. I would post a video every monthish, and by the time I was ready to switch to AdorianDeck, I was only getting 3000-4000 views a video when I had almost 15,000 subscribers.

How has YouTube shaped and influence your life both now and where you see yourself in the future?

There is no explaining what so ever how much YouTube has changed my life. It doesn’t even feel real to me how much it has changed my life. It has made me so much more outgoing, so much more confident, so much more aware and has given me so much knowledge and experience that I need as a person. So many people in the world are missing out on a life like this, and I am SO grateful to have the people that I have around me.

Exactly how would your describe the style of you and your videos?

I never really know what to say. People in person ask me that all the time when they have never seen my videos but heard about them. “What are your videos about Adorian?” I usually say a mix of comedy skits, video blogs, and music videos. I love having a wide variety of videos instead of sticking to one kind because I can venture out and do so many different things, which is great for a 16 year old.

In your “Sharing is NOT Caring” video, I noticed there was a hole in your door. What’s the story behind that?

HAHA! Well…I was with my brother and his girlfriend at the time, and my brother was trying to push me out of our room and he slammed the door on my fingers. So I started flipping out uncontrollably, and I just kicked the door in…hehe :D

While I was in high school I shared a room with my brother, and we would get in physical fights (I always won). Does that happen with you and your brother? If so, who wins?

Haha, most of our fights are verbal. Whenever we get in physical fights, he’s usually the one that had more force because he’s bigger than me, and I have no violence almost at all to my personality. No one really ever won, but if you consider him winning like that, than he will win almost every time.

What would you like to say to your fans?

I would like to say to my fans that you guys are what keeps me going. All the positive feedback I get on my videos, some of my videos have no hate, unless its like the Justin Bieber video where the little 10 year old teenyboppers start yelling at me with their 5th grade spelling and grammar. You all are freaking amazing, if I didn’t have you I would not be where I am today AT ALL…and I love you guys. <3

Twitter Questions:

@Austinthq: Are you a vegetarian?

No, thats a good life choice, but to be honest, I would die. HA!

@ThaGodBrother: What software and camera do you use?

For a really long time I had 2 different cameras, the Panasonic PV-GS80 and the Sony HDR-SR5 (High Def) with Sony Vegas 8 Pro. I recently switched to the Canon Vixia HG-20 (High Def) with IMovie 09 and Final Cut Express 4.

@thatzak: So what’s the true story about your relationship with MissAlissa15?

Alissa and I are best friends. We are so close and connected that I am not surprised one bit that people think we are secretly dating. No one will ever understand how close we are. Some people have even gotten mad at us for it. Don’t get me wrong, we actually talk about things like that and what it would be like all the time. We’re really mature about it, but the best choice for us is to stay how we are. We do LOVE keeping people hanging though. We are both real attention whores sometimes and we just love to keep people guessing. Some say it’s bad and might hate us for it, but we love doing it. :)
