5 ways to promote with Twitter

Posted by admin On September - 29 - 2009 2 COMMENTS

twitter_bird_icon2Even though you have a Twitter account for your YouTube channel, you still have plenty of work to do. You’ll only see results with Twitter when you actually use it correctly. This article will show you the five most effective ways to promote yourself as a YouTuber using Twitter. Also, keep in mind that these tips and tricks can be applied to almost anything that needs promotion.

1. Tweet about your current video

When you tweet your video once there’s a chance that only 10% of your followers will see it. This is because they either live in a different timezone or your tweet gets lost amongst tweets from the other people they follow. It’s a good idea to tweet your video three or four times a day with two-three hours of time between each one. “If they’re subscribed to me so they’ll see my new video on the front page of YouTube.” This is a common misconception, because too often do YouTubers find that their videos don’t appear in their subscribers’ sub box. Which is why it’s important to tweet your videos.

“Well, I just don’t have the time to always be on twitter to make these tweets.” Luckily for you, you don’t always need to be on twitter. HootSuite.com is an amazing website that gives you the ability to schedule your tweets. Yes, you heard right. You can type out a tweet and use their program to have it uploaded onto Twitter minutes, hours, or even weeks later. In matter of fact, if you found this article via a tweet @PauseStopRewind then you just saw an example of a scheduled tweet.

2. Tweet about your upcoming videos

Weeks or sometimes months before new movies and television shows are released you’ll see promotions for them. This is done to build up hype and increase the amount of possible viewers. The same principle can be used to increase the amount of video views you’ll receive. Inform your followers when you have new video ideas, what stage of production you’re at, give them hints as to what you’re filming, and tweet the release date a few days before you upload the video. Anything you tweet about your video will build up hype. Then when that particular day comes, your followers will be there the second the video is uploaded.

3. Promote your live shows

You’ll find that many YouTubers host lives shows on websites such as BlogTV and UStream. This helps to build up their fan base, but we’ll talk more about the importance of live shows in a future article. If you do live shows it helps to tweet about them ahead of time. DFizzy is a good example of this. Hours before he goes live he tweets about where he’ll be live at and when. By the time he does go live, he finds that fans are already there waiting for him.

This is great, because more often than not people turn away live shows when there’s very few viewers. However, in DFizzy‘s case, more viewers will be tempted to stay at the beginning when they see there’s already other viewers there. Again, you can use HootSuite.com to help schedule promotion tweets.

4. Link to your YouTube channel

Too often do I come across YouTubers with a twitter, but never bother to list their channel link on their profile. Do I take the time to search them on YouTube? No, because I’m a busy guy, and so are many other people. By not including your YouTube channel’s link on your profile page, you’re missing out on channel views, video views, and possible subscribers.

The same can be said visa versa. If you have a Twitter that you use to promote your videos then you need to have it linked somewhere on your channel page and in every video. Also, make sure to stress why it’s important for your subscribers to follow you. Tell them that they’ll be able to be the first hear about your live shows, your new videos, and other projects you’re working on. This will catch they’re attention even more, and increase your reputation and popularity as a YouTuber.

5. Utilize your Twitter background

A popular trend amongst YouTubers are customized Twitter backgrounds that help to promote their work. Shane Dawson is an excellent example of this. He creates a new weekly promotional background that showcases his up coming video and contains links to his important websites. Other YouTubers choose to create a background with just their instant messaging screen names, emails addresses, and a short bio. Whichever you choose to do will surly have more of an impact than a regular Twitter background.

To learn more on this subject read “Creating an eye popping Twitter background”.

There are other ways to promote yourself on Twitter, but these are the most preferred and professional ways. While @replying your videos to bigger YouTubers can sometimes be successful, it’s also looked down upon if done too much. Also, don’t over tweet or follow people just to have them follow you. Otherwise you’ll find your branded as a Twitter whore and we already have enough whores.

TheOriginalTyler live interview

Posted by admin On September - 28 - 2009 4 COMMENTS

l_42e5814c39254aa48c21973d68475347PauseStopRewind: My first question for you is why did upload your first video onto YouTube?

TheOriginalTyler: Well, I uploaded other random, pointless videos onto an older channel I had of me and my friends sucking helium at work. We laughed and giggled about it. But then I decided to start theoriginaltyler channel instead and try to be more organized. haha

Did you ever think that your channel would become what it is now?

Not at all. I am extremely grateful for the support I have received.

Looking at where you’re at now on YouTube, and how far you’ve come along, how much has it impacted your life?

It has actually impacted my life quite a bit. I mean, I’m not like one of the most famous people on the internet, but it has definitely changed the way people perceive me. My co-workers, family, and friends always make comments about my videos. Sometimes people stop me at work and tell me they’ve seen them. My gramma finds the most random things at stores and calls me asking if I could use them for my videos. It’s actually quite funny.

Do you have a funny moment of where someone came up to you in real life because they saw your videos?

One time at work, I was cleaning the side dining room. I had just waited on an older lady and a younger girl. I noticed them whispering and staring at me, and I assumed they were making fun of me or something. A little while later the lady came up to me and said her daughter wanted a picture with me. It made my night.

Awww haha. Where do you see YouTube fitting into your life in the future?

Truly, it’s just a hobby that I enjoy. But if by any chance it opened other doors, that would be completely amazing.

How would you describe your style, and how do you think you stand out?

My style is definitely child friendly humor. I think I stand out because I talk about a lot of issues that other people might think are “un-cool.”

What makes some of these issues important to you?

The issues I discuss in my videos are things that I have personally struggled with getting to where I am today. I’ve never been the kind of person who has fit in. I just really want people to know that they are not alone when they might feel as though they are.

How do you come up with your video ideas and what’s the process like creating them?

That varies based on the kind of video. I do vlogs, parodies, skits, etc. Each different type of video has a different process. haha

Well, how about in regards to parodies and skits?

Basically, when I hear a song, I get a general idea for a parody. Then I sit down and write the lyrics. Then I have one of my good online friends create a generic instrumental. Then I record the audio and Curtis (amazing person) edits the vocals. Then I make the video. And walla! haha

Haha, how long does that typicaly takes?

Usually it takes anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks to completely finish a parody if all goes as planned. I depend on a few other people, and they have lives as well, so sometimes it takes them time to do their parts.

Looking back at your first few videos, how much would you say you have improved and where would you like to improve on next?

I have come a long way since my first few videos. My editing has improved tremendously. I use a green screen now. As far as the future goes, I want to try to keep having more and more original ideas.

Which YouTubers have inspired you the most?

I have done videos since I was young, so a lot of what I do is just what I have naturally enjoyed doing since before YouTube even existed. I am definitely a huge VenetianPrincess fan. Her parodies are amazing.

I have a Twitter Question for you from HiImRawn of The Station. Brace yourself, this one is interesting.

Oh heaven help me lol

He wants to know when you smile is it because you are happy to be alive or sinister because you just ate a pony?

I have never had pony meat before, so I would have to say it’s because I’m happy. lol

haha. Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?

Thank you so much for the support. I truly am so thankful that people have accepted me for who I am and enjoy what I do. I love you all! :)

Thank you Tyler for doing this interview! :D

You’re welcome! :D

YouTube’s most talented keyboard player

Posted by admin On September - 28 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Justin Ryan
To really stand out as a musician on YouTube you have to have something that words can barely describe. You have to the ability to leave your audience speechless and hungering for more. I happen to found one such musician. Well, I should say he found PauseStopRewind, and I find myself lucky enough to have received an email from such a talented musician, entertainer, and story teller.

Justin Ryan, a 21 year-old from Austin, Texas, instantly blew my mind away with his keyboard playing skills. I’m not at all an expert when it comes to musical instruments. However, I do know that rarely someone impresses me as much as he has. This YouTuber takes popular songs such as Just Dance by Lady Gaga and Right Round by Flo Rida and plays the lyrics on his keyboard. Yes, you read right, he plays the lyrics instead of the actual music from the songs. That’s just the beginning.

His keyboard playing videos have a wide range of verity to them. Songs from Cold Play, to Kanye West, and even Miley Cyrus are played. DFizzy, if you’re reading this, make sure to check out his Taylor Swift video. He even takes it a step further by remixing a few with a different type of sound. Which are probably the most entertaining for me. For example, he takes Chris Brown’s Down featuring Kayne West and gives it an electric remix.

So what else could possibly make Justin stand out? One word; robots. In his newer videos he added an interesting element where sometimes a robot, K.I. (Killa Instinct), in the background will guide Justin. This adds a kind of hidden story line to these videos. Which gives a little added treat to Techno buffs.

There’s no telling what’s surprises he has in store for his upcoming videos. However, I do know he’ll become famous for his talent. It’s already evident with some videos with views in the tens of thousands and his ever increasing amount of subscribers. Justin Ryan could possibly change the way we listen to music.

Makes sure to check out his videos and follow him on twitter for his latest updates. Also, retweet this spotlight to spread word about your favorite blog on your up and coming favorite YouTubers :D

Adorian Deck interview

Posted by admin On September - 28 - 2009 1 COMMENT

Adorian
PauseStopRewind: What got you thinking, “Oh I should upload videos onto YouTube!”?

Adorian Deck: All my life I have always loved using a video camera. It always just made me so thrilled for some reason. One of my best friends back in the 7th grade showed me a YouTube video that everyone knows. It was the Pokemon Theme Song Music Video by Smosh, and I laughed at that forever. As the next few months after seeing that, I kept up with smosh’s videos, all their little comedy skits they have done in the past 4 years. So in August 2006, I started making my own videos with like, 10 of my neighbors and they we made it like a little show where I was host, and everyone else did little cheesy 5 – 10 second clips of something and put it all together. After time, we started doing skits, and as more and more time went by, less of my friends/neighbors were making videos with me. It finally narrowed down to just me making videos in July 2008, when I started focusing more on the YouTube community, and where I am today.

Did you ever once thought you would turn out as big as you are now?

I started making videos on youtube when I had just turned 13 years old. I always had that mind sense that I REALLY wanted to be famous, just a natural 13 year old’s thoughts when one would come around an opportunity like this. I honestly never actually THOUGHT that I would get to where I am now, I have so many supporting people watching my videos, and it’s the reason I am still making videos after 3 years on YouTube.

Who are some of your biggest influences both on and off of YouTube?

Well my biggest YouTube influence would have to be Smosh, because they are what got me started on Youtube, and I am SO happy I got the chance to tell them that at YouTube Live last November, and told them how far I had gone at that time. I honestly don’t think I have had many influences that were off of YouTube. I’m sure there are people that are a significant piece to all this, but when I think about my influences for my Youtube videos, it’s basically everyone that has some community sense on YouTube, the people I have met, talked to, and not talked to/met yet.

Why did you want a fresh start on your videos, and as it paid off so far?

I needed a fresh start, because in February, my partnership was disowned along with a few other people I knew that were in the same situation with me, and basically there were problems with Google Adsense. Ever since that happened my inspiration for videos was SO low, I made only about 5 or 6 after that until this August. I felt I had been doing RanDomeFilms for a year and a half, and I’m a teenager and always changing my ideas and opinions. So I just needed a change, and it has helped me SO much. I now make a video AT LEAST once a week. I may have less than half of my subscribers, but almost every single person watches, and I’m proud of that.

Where have you improved most as a YouTuber and where would you like to improve on next?

I have learned what YouTube is about. I used to think it was all about the subscribers, all about getting heard, thats what everyone wanted that I knew way back in the day, and a select few know exactly what I mean by this sentence. Youtube is literally its own community, and there are SO many wonderful people on it. Adults always say the internet is so scary and they’re all predators. Well when you meet hundreds of YouTubers in person, you have completely different opinions on the internet. I used to be such an attention whore when it comes to YouTube, wanting all the fame. I still have that small sense of it, and that is where I would like to improve myself.

Now that you gave yourself these weekly deadlines, how much work is it to get these deadlines met? Also, how stressful is it sometimes?

Haha, well when I first started, I had almost 10 videos already planned out, so I was safe for a while. Now those videos are out on the internet, I am in that danger zone. I am actually REALLY surprised, for some reason, when it’s monday of the week, not even some kind of idea for saturdays new video, something always comes up, I have not let my viewers down and I don’t plan on it. All this keeping up has come in the package of inspiration with the new channel.

Do your video ideas naturally come to you, or do you ever find yourself having to brain storm?

It’s both. Some of my video ideas come from me doing things with friends, or just things I deal with in my life, while some I really have to think about and than they will come to me. It all really depends on how that time period is going; if its good, if its bad.

Have you ever came up with TOO many video ideas? If so, how did you decide which ones to go with?

There is NEVER too many video ideas, it’s GREAT if you have a lot of video ideas. Like I said earlier, I had almost 10 videos planned out. It can really keep you away from a near stress. It’s a really comfortable feeling, because if you don’t post anything for a few weeks like a lot of youtubers I know. You become old and forgotten by a lot of people. That happened to me with RanDomeFilms. I would post a video every monthish, and by the time I was ready to switch to AdorianDeck, I was only getting 3000-4000 views a video when I had almost 15,000 subscribers.

How has YouTube shaped and influence your life both now and where you see yourself in the future?

There is no explaining what so ever how much YouTube has changed my life. It doesn’t even feel real to me how much it has changed my life. It has made me so much more outgoing, so much more confident, so much more aware and has given me so much knowledge and experience that I need as a person. So many people in the world are missing out on a life like this, and I am SO grateful to have the people that I have around me.

Exactly how would your describe the style of you and your videos?

I never really know what to say. People in person ask me that all the time when they have never seen my videos but heard about them. “What are your videos about Adorian?” I usually say a mix of comedy skits, video blogs, and music videos. I love having a wide variety of videos instead of sticking to one kind because I can venture out and do so many different things, which is great for a 16 year old.

In your “Sharing is NOT Caring” video, I noticed there was a hole in your door. What’s the story behind that?

HAHA! Well…I was with my brother and his girlfriend at the time, and my brother was trying to push me out of our room and he slammed the door on my fingers. So I started flipping out uncontrollably, and I just kicked the door in…hehe :D

While I was in high school I shared a room with my brother, and we would get in physical fights (I always won). Does that happen with you and your brother? If so, who wins?

Haha, most of our fights are verbal. Whenever we get in physical fights, he’s usually the one that had more force because he’s bigger than me, and I have no violence almost at all to my personality. No one really ever won, but if you consider him winning like that, than he will win almost every time.

What would you like to say to your fans?

I would like to say to my fans that you guys are what keeps me going. All the positive feedback I get on my videos, some of my videos have no hate, unless its like the Justin Bieber video where the little 10 year old teenyboppers start yelling at me with their 5th grade spelling and grammar. You all are freaking amazing, if I didn’t have you I would not be where I am today AT ALL…and I love you guys. <3

Twitter Questions:

@Austinthq: Are you a vegetarian?

No, thats a good life choice, but to be honest, I would die. HA!

@ThaGodBrother: What software and camera do you use?

For a really long time I had 2 different cameras, the Panasonic PV-GS80 and the Sony HDR-SR5 (High Def) with Sony Vegas 8 Pro. I recently switched to the Canon Vixia HG-20 (High Def) with IMovie 09 and Final Cut Express 4.

@thatzak: So what’s the true story about your relationship with MissAlissa15?

Alissa and I are best friends. We are so close and connected that I am not surprised one bit that people think we are secretly dating. No one will ever understand how close we are. Some people have even gotten mad at us for it. Don’t get me wrong, we actually talk about things like that and what it would be like all the time. We’re really mature about it, but the best choice for us is to stay how we are. We do LOVE keeping people hanging though. We are both real attention whores sometimes and we just love to keep people guessing. Some say it’s bad and might hate us for it, but we love doing it. :)

Thank you Adorian Deck for letting PauseStopRewind interview you :D

A little girl that provides big laughs

Posted by admin On September - 27 - 2009 2 COMMENTS

picOne of the best comedy styles to have as a YouTubers is one that is witty and clever. It’s also one of the most difficult traits to master, and too many fall short of delivering that much needed burst of laugher. However, one little girl’s videos are so witty and cleverly funny that it makes you think she was born a comedic genius.

Tanja (pronounced Ton-Ya), better known as allcheckeredout, has not once disappointed nor bored me to death. Too often I find myself watching YouTubers who’s videos are either hit or miss. However, she constantly hits home runs which has given me faith in each of her videos. Every video concept is well thought out and fully executed from beginning to end.

One of my favorites, Feeling the Music, is a prime example of this. In the video, each time she picks up an item a popular song will play that’s associated with that item. Nowhere in my memory can I recall seeing this idea before on YouTube. I also find myself waiting for that big ending in each video that will have me laughing so loud that it will wake up the neighbors.

Not only are her videos original they’re also well produced. She has a knack for knowing what camera angles to use and how to edit them together. This only pulls my attention even more and makes me appreciate the work she has put into them. If she doesn’t go into filming as a career then I know I’m missing out on future block busters.

Her acting is the cheery on top. For someone her age to act out the right emotions, facials expressions, and vocal tones at the right moment is just remarkable. I always find myself in “ah” over how talented she is. It makes you wonder why she isn’t already on Disney Channel or Nickelodeon. However, if she keeps uploading these cleverly and laugh out loud videos she’ll one day become bigger than any Disney Channel star.

Make sure to check out her videos and follow her on twitter! Also, retweet this spotlight to spread word about your favorite blog on your favorite YouTubers :D

BlogTV reacts too late to underage drunk girls

Posted by admin On September - 26 - 2009 2 COMMENTS

BlogTV-logoLate Sunday night a live BlogTV broadcast was hosted by two girls who many suspect were drunk. Throughout the entire broadcast they consume what appears to be a mix alcoholic drink with playing around in an empty bathtub. Their actions and judgment seemed to be greatly impaired or they were just extremely stupid.

The girls continuously knock each other into the tub and headbutted each other. At some points it was so bad that you could hear loud bangs when their heads made contact. At another point the make out. There was no question that they were under the age of 18. Meanwhile where were the mods of BlogTV?

Nowhere to be found. In matter of fact they threaten to ban those who brought attention to the channel instead blocking the actual broadcast. Many were actually concerned for the girl’s safety, but were treated poorly by the mods as they done nothing. After one of the girls accidentally flashed herself the mods decided to block the broadcast.

However, it was already too late. Videos of the girls surfaced onto YouTube within minutes of the broadcast being blocked. This will surly effect BlogTV’s reputation due to their lack action and careless judgment. Also, it effects the reputation of their advertisers that were presented before each time the broadcast was loaded. There’s no doubt that the girls have truly screwed up their future.

The actual broadcast occurred on this BlogTV profile.

TheWillOfDC interview

Posted by admin On September - 26 - 2009 1 COMMENT

f0c93ffeb24c32e8de55a7136791f29d_1058077PauseStopRewind: Why did you decide to start uploading videos onto YouTube?

thewillofdc:I originally started my spring semester of my senior year of college because I was having a mental breakdown not wanting to grow up and not having any real direction in life. So I made a vlog about my favorite YouTubers because I had been actively watching and subscribing since early 2006. That video of course was seen by about 60 maybe 80 people total before I made it private it lol. I started posting on my new channel because I wanted a fresh start and I was very bored having just moved to D.C. by myself knowing no one.

What is it about vlogging that you enjoy?

I love finding something I have a passion in and being able to talk about it all the time. Out of the whole vlogging experience I love responding to comments the most. It is exciting and so much fun for me.

Which YouTubes would you say has had the biggest influence on you?

First and foremost I would say smosh because their pokemon video was the very first YouTube video i ever saw and what got me to make an account way back in early 06. Off course Michael Buckley without him I’d have no will to vlog. Shane Dawson of course has been a huge influence. Sxephil I’ve been following for years. Shay Carl is pretty much the nicest YouTuber I know. The 5 Awesome Gays really make me proud. My cousin meekakitty is so amazingly talented I wish I had inherited that gene.

At what point did you decide to cover events and happenings on YouTube, and why?

I have been tracking stats for over a year and one day I was with Ray updating my spreadsheet and he asked what I was dong. I explained it to him and he said I should make a vlog about it cause people would love it. I disagreed and thought no one would care but decided to make one anyone. the first one did amazingly well and I decided to do them every Friday. YouTube news was an original idea I came up with randomly to compliment my winners and losers episodes.

How much research and work does it take for your “YouTube Winners and Losers” and “YouTube News” videos?

It takes a long time to do winners and losers because I have to update my excel file on how many subscribers each top 100 person got that week and I’m trying to keep up with views and comments they each have received that week as well. So it takes a long time. Then I have to sort through the information and figure out who I am going to talk about, and of course who is going to be winner and loser.

YouTube news is a different kind of hard but also takes much less time. Since I spend my life on YouTube I am constantly compiling stories from many different sources all week and then Tuesday I wake up and pick the best 3-4. The hardest part of YouTube news has really become the up and coming YouTuber of the week because there are SO MANY amazing people out there that deserve recognition and I have such a hard time picking just one per week.

Do you ever plan on expanding into other days of the week with your YouTube related segments? Why or why not?

I could not be doing more now that I am, lol. I feel tired enough having 2 shows a week i have no clue how people do daily vlogs or more than twice a week. when starting YouTube news I really didn’t know if I would keep with it but it seems to be holding its on against my obvious more popular w and l so I think I’ll keep it around, lol.

Exactly where does your YouTube channel fit in with your ideal career? Like do you want to become a reporter or is this just a hobby for you?

Oooo being a reporter. That would be nuts. I mean if the opportunity came along i ‘d love to be a political reporter, I’d be all over that shit. be the next Keith Olberman, that is my dream. But as for something more practical no i don’t think i want to try my hand at journalism. especially on TV or print. that’s a dieing medium i like being apart of the new media. My ideal career would be making enough money from YouTube to support myself full time.

Has it ever once cross your mind that you would possibly get as big as you are now?

Oh God no, never. When I started Youtube, I planned on only doing it until I graduated then take everything down so future employers wouldn’t see them. When I made “thewillofdc”, I made it more for the buck community so I could interact and get to know everyone better to make friends. At first, I thought the biggest I’d ever get was 100 subscribers and once that happened, I freaked out and didn’t want to grow. Buck then featured me, helping me to get to 300 subscribers, which felt like a lot since I didn’t think my quality was worthy of recognition. At 700 subcribers, I started the series: “Youtube winners and losers,” thinking I could get to 1k and feel done leaving me to my next step: being a partner. When I hit 1k, I totally cried like a baby. When I hit 5k, I was totally speechless, not knowing what to do. I wanted to know where the ride was going to end so I could appreciate it as obviously, I would stop gaining at some point. Recently, I passed 10k subscribers. I am very grateful and shocked that I would ever get this far. Every morning when I wake up to see the subscribers I gained overnight, it’s like Christmas morning, giving me the greatest feeling in the world. Imagine having every morning be the morning of Christmas, life doesn’t get much better than that!

Where would you say you improved most on, and where would you like to improve on next?

I have really improved on keeping my energy up and being fast but understandable and not jumbling my words together. Also, I used to have to do like five takes for every line and now I only have like 1-3. The next thing I need to improve on is my lighting and background. I have a green screen but I don’t have good lighting setup or Final Cut Pro.

Since uploading your videos, how has YouTube changed and influenced your life?

Wow. I could go on for days but I’ll try and be brief. YouTube has changed everything in my life and made me such a better person. I am living in a city I never thought I’d live in. I’m friends with the most amazing people I would have never met if it wasn’t for YouTube. As I’m writing this I’m getting ready to go out and see my YouTube friend Mike Falzone play a gig at a bar downtown. He’s by far my favorite male musician and I would have never heard of him if it wasn’t for YouTube. I owe everything to YouTube cause it has given me a wonderfully crazy life to live.

In a year from now, where would you like to see yourself YouTube wise?

I would love to have over 100k and be on the top 100. But that is an EXTREME dream.

Given the chance to have one collab with any YouTuber, who would it be and why?

I would love to collab with smosh. it would just bring the experience full circle.

As you know, many people love to compare you to Michael Buckley. How would you say you’re different than him?

I cover YouTube and he covers pop culture. but i personally love being compared to buck cause he is awesome times the awesome.

Has there ever been a moment where you doubted yourself as a YouTube? If so, how have you overcome that?

I used to doubt myself when my view counts wouldn’t do as well as I wanted. But I’ve gotten over that and am just having fun.

Twitter Question: @trvsTV-What advice would you give for someone wanting to be big on YouTube?

Make vlgos you are passionate about and be passionate while you do them. It is so easy to see when someone doesn’t care about what they’re talking about or if they do but they’re having an off day and are not conveying the proper emotion. Also network network network. Don’t be pushy or aggressive but make friends that’s the number one way to gain exposure.

Thank you, Will very much for taking the time to do this interview. I really appreciate it.

Anytime this was fun!

Uncuthashbrown interview

PauseStopRewind: You have a very interesting name, uncuthashbrown. What’s the story behind that?

Uncuthashbrown: In 2005 I decided to make an AIM account, but couldn’t think of a good screen-name. My friend Joey R (from some of my videos) and I were looking at gamer-tag names on Xbox Live to help us think of something and we came across one that had something to do with hashbrowns. And since “hashbrown” was already taken as a screen-name on AIM, I chose to be more specific, and that’s how I got “uncuthashbrown.” It’s kinda funny to look back and think that if we saw a name having to do with something like peanut butter I would be calling myself unopenedpeanutbutter or some weird(er) name like that.

When did the idea to start upload videos come to you, and what made you go with that idea?

When I first started hearing about YouTube, I thought it was the coolest thing that you could express yourself in videos and have everyone see them. So I started making really stupid, unedited videos with my neighbors using a little digital camera that let you record 15 seconds of film, and I guess it just started from there. One of them is still on my YouTube, it’s called “Dragonball-Z Spoof”.

Which YouTubers would say inspired you the most?

It wasn’t until my friend sent me a video of supermac18′s that I began watching videos on YouTube (kinda going backwards from that last question). So if I never saw Mac’s videos I probably wouldn’t have started making videos myself. I’ve actually talked with Mac a few times now and he’s really cool.

Do you let your ideas come to you or do you brain storm them?

Most of my video ideas come to me from things that annoy me, my friends, and just everyday life. Like I got the idea for my “FINGER LICKIN’” video because it just annoys me so much how people lick their fingers to help them turn the page. Stuff like that.

How do you prepare for your videos and how long does is typically take you to complete them?

It depends on how long and how in-depth I want the video to be. If it’s a short 2 minute skit, it’ll take about 10 minutes to get ready to film (putting props where I want them to be, lighting, clothes, setting up the camera, etc.), then it takes about 30 minutes to actually film, and it takes up to 2 hours to edit. If the video is 5 minutes and has a real storyline to it, the entire video-making process could take up to 12 hours. But I really enjoy it :)

How would you describe the style of your videos, and what makes you stand out?

I think I have a pretty unique style of comedy. I kind of have an awkward, dry type of humor. A lot of the jokes in my videos you have to really think about and most people don’t even catch half of them. I think that kind of style is pretty rare on YouTube.

You have yourself marked down as a director on your channel. Is there you see yourself career wise? If not, then what?

Yeah that’s exactly why I put myself under that category. YouTube has affected my life so much because it made me realize what I’m good at, and what I wanna do for the rest of my life, and that’s filmmaking. And that’s why I continue to make videos on YouTube, because I feel like this is the perfect place for me to get to my goal of being a filmmaker.

What would you say is that hardest thing for you when it comes to filming your videos?

The hardest part when it comes to filming my videos is definitely lighting. My house is so dimly lit I usually have to bring around a few lamps wherever I film. It gets pretty frustrating.

Do you have a particular favorite video you made? If so, what is it and why?

If I had to choose a favorite video it would have to be “The Race: A Stop-Motion Video.” Because it was a stop-motion video, it took about 4.5 hours to film the 2 minute video and about 8 hours to edit it all using over 3,000 pictures. Definitely the most time consuming video I have ever made, but it was well worth it!

Where would you say you’re most improved on as a YouTuber and where would you like to improve on next?

I think over the two years of being a YouTuber, I’ve improved most in professionalism (that’s a word, right?). Before, I wasn’t a very good editor (I used Windows Movie Maker, enough said.) I’m now using Sony Vegas Pro 9 which is amazing. And I’m always trying to improve everything I do in film making, so I can’t really pin-point one area I’d like to improve in.

Given the chance to do a collab with one Youtuber, who would it be and why?

I think I’d have to say Damon (DFizzy). I like his style of videos, and I think it’s really cool that he speaks his mind and doesn’t care what other people think. I also think it’s really nice of him to help out other YouTubers by doing the Channel of the Week.

Explain to us the back story behind “THE COUPON PROJECT” video. Did you make the coupon? Find it on web and printed it off? Also was the camera hidden or could the workers see it? Were you nervous? Do you plan do make a second coupon project video?

My friend Chris and I made that video about a year and a half ago, but I had to delete it because I had copyrighted music in it, so I decided to re-upload it with royalty free music. We were about to ride our bikes to Wendy’s to get a bite to eat when we came up with the idea to make a fake coupon and try and use it. So we took a piece of paper and wrote “Coopon: Free Hamburger J” on it. Our goal was to get the workers to actually believe it was a real coupon. And the result was so funny at Wendy’s we decided to try it at Dairy Queen, too. The camera was out in the open so I’m sure the workers could see it, probably making them even more uncomfortable. I’m not gonna lie, I was pretty nervous but Chris kept a straight face the entire time. And as for a “COUPON PROJECT 2”, I’m planning out a few new “Projects” with my friends Joey R and Lucas, so be on the lookout for that. :)

Can you give us a hint on what you’re working on next?

Well I got invited by a filmmaker to work as a PA (Production Assistant) with a few other people, so I’m pretty excited about that. As for YouTube, I recently joined a collaboration channel with 13 other people called VlogVault. I also plan on doing a serious short film here and there.

Finally, what would you like to say to your fans?

Life is short, and so is Gary Coleman.
