Nigahiga surpasses Fred

After months of being the number one most subscribed YouTuber, Fred Figglehorn, played by Lucas Cruikshank, was surpassed by Nigahiga. At the time of this posting, Fred had 1,356,854 subscribers compared to Nigahiga’s 1,358,669. With barely a gap of 2,000 subscribers it’s safe to say this could become a head to head race for a while. However, could this mean that people are now losing interest in Fred?
At first, videos of a teenage boy portraying a 6 year-old hyperactive kid who screams like a girl were funny. Kids of all ages could enjoy, young adults understood more of the mature jokes, and some parents were happy to have their children occupied. Nearly three dozen videos later we still have the same… Fred.
Not much has changed. Same character, same scream, same quality of the videos, and with so much of everything being the same there’s nothing to keep us interested. When we compare Fred’s videos to that of Nigahiga’s it becomes clear as to why Fred is no longer number one on YouTube. The only thing that is baffling is why hasn’t this already happen?

Fred and nigahiga in a race for the top spot.
Not a single one of Fred’s videos have a 5 star rating. Most are 3, 4, or 4.5 whereas several of Nigahiga’s videos hold a strong 5 star rating. Also the videos are focused on an unrealistic fictional character. Viewers want to be able to relate with someone who is actually real. Fred is an out of place cartoon character, which makes it difficult for anyone to relate with. However, Nigahiga experiments with the several different characters while being himself and this is the main factor for his top spot.
The best move for Lucas is to cut back on Fred, and start exploring some other options. He needs to experiment a little more with different characters, and to grow as an entertainer. Fred helped him get well established, but now it’s time for him to step aside so that Lucas can broadcast himself to the world.

I agree. Although I support Lucas and think it’s great that he has made it this far, I think he needs to change up his style a little to both hold and increase his audience. I am bored with him. Nigahiga on the other hand is much more creative and offers a variety of different types of comedy.

You hit the nail on the coffin. I think that’s exactly why Ryan past Lucas. Ryan has a lot more variety in his videos, whereas “Fred” is the same thing in every video. I have tons of respect for Lucas though, he represented the YouTube community for a long time. But I’m real glad to see Ryan as the number one most subbed, he deserves it.
Btw, I’m still looking forward to that interview

Playing different characters can also be related to many other YouTubers. For example the famous YouTuber Shane Dawson, You may know he plays many characters in all of his videos, which proboly is the reason for him coming up to 5th most subscribed all time. Playing multible characters can help you stay strong with your current subscribers and future subscribers.

This article sums it up perfectly. If Lucas branched out, he might very well be unstoppable.

This is a good article but you said in the second paragraph that kids of all ages could relate to Fred, but in the 4th paragraph you said it is very difficult for anyone to relate to Fred .That does not make that much sense.
