Why every serious YouTuber needs a Twitter

Posted by admin On August - 19 - 2009

TwitterBirdTwitter is a phenomenon that shows no signs of slowing down. It has served as a tool for celebrities, television networks, and even local weather alert stations. In recent months the social status site has become popular amongst YouTubers.

Has Twitter impacted them though like so many others who use it? There’s no doubt that the answer is “Of course!” This article will explore the three reasons why every serious YouTuber needs a Twitter, and what sort of effects it could have on their success rate.

1.) Easy to access updates-it can be difficult to get updated on your favorite YouTubers even if you’re subscribed to them. New video uploads are not always shown on the front page after signing in, and there’s no space on the channels to update the fans. Having a Twitter allows for YouTubers to give their fans the 24/7 updates on their videos with simple tweets. Shane Dawson has taken this further by changing his Twitter background into a weekly previews for his videos. This increases the amount of views on the Saturdays he uploads videos.

Oftentimes Youtuber can get caught up in life, leaving them no time to upload videos. Twitter makes it easier for them to let their fans know of their current events, and when they should expect a new video. Whereas on YouTube, video updates were the best way to do this. Which obviously was time consuming for the YouTuber.

2.) Connect with both fans and fellow YouTubers- Twitter has become more than an update status site. It has become a community for many. YouTubers are able to instantly connect with one another with the @reply and direct message functions. This has made collabs and partnerships even more possible, because getting that first initial contact on YouTube is difficult.

Fans also enjoy being noticed by those they admire. The @reply allows for YouTubers to instantly reply back to their fans, and furthermore, showing everyone that they take notice in them. This destroys the line that people feel they can’t cross to get in touch with their favorite YouTubers.

3.) Free & fast promotion- businesses, celebs, television networks, websites, authors, and everyone else who offers a service use Twitter as promotion. Twitter allows them to reach out to anyone they want to for free, and without all the hard work that comes with other social media sites. This decreases the amount of time it takes to see results. For example, nearly all of PauseStopRewind’s readers are the result of just four tweeted interviews at the time of this posting. YouTubers also feel the success results generated by Twitter.

When a big YouTube star tweets about a smaller, lesser known YouTuber, their views and subscribers will instantly increase. Before Twitter, the only way to get promoted was to either do a collab video or buy advertising on a YouTuber’s personal website. Each took up too much time and money, and the effects were less than that of the Twitter’s. Also, every time fans @replies your name, you’re instantly introduced to their followers creating the word-of-mouth promotion.

Twitter is an effective tool for YouTubers, because of the benefits of easy to access updates, instant connections, and free & fast promotion. Ignoring the benefits of Twitter will surely hinder the likelihood of becoming a successful YouTuber. If you haven’t already created one for your YouTube channel you can click here to do so.

Twitter is such a great way to stay connected with all of your YouTube viewers. In many cases, I’ve seen people use it to advertise their own videos, or even the videos of upandcoming stars. It’s such a great tool- I think everyone should be using it!
